Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha about the significant strides taken by the Railway Ministry in the development and redevelopment of railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The scheme, aimed at continuous enhancement of station facilities across the Indian Railways, now includes 1,318 stations, with nine additional ones recently added.
Responding to MP Ashok Kumar Mittal's inquiry, Vaishnaw highlighted the comprehensive nature of the scheme, which involves sequential stages of master planning to improve various aspects of station infrastructure and amenities. These include access, waiting halls, toilets, Wi-Fi, executive lounges, and more, tailored to each station's requirements.
Moreover, the scheme emphasizes infrastructure enhancement, promoting multi-modal connectivity, facilities for persons with disabilities, and eco-friendly solutions. It also considers phased development and feasibility for long-term city center establishments at stations.
In Punjab, 30 railway stations are earmarked for development under the scheme, with additional stations having benefited from the Adarsh Station Scheme. Vaishnaw noted the expenditure incurred for railway development in Punjab, underlining the government's commitment to modernizing rail infrastructure in the region.
Updating on the implementation of recommendations from the 6th report on Passenger Amenities, the minister affirmed the report's presentation in Parliament, signaling the government's commitment to improving passenger experiences and modernizing railway stations nationwide.
